The town of Windham is blessed with hundreds of acres of parkland and preserves.  This offers innumerable opportunities for its residents to explore the outdoors from hiking, swimming and fishing to cross country skiing and even blueberry picking.  The Donnabeth Lippman Park is a perfect picnic spot—there are tables already set up.  Other options include a hike around Chaffin, the 10-acre pond on the property, and fishing, one of the main activities at the community park.  Dundee Park, along the Presumpcot River, is another great gathering spot, whether it’s for grilling or team sports.

The town’s proximity to the Presumpscot River, the Pleasant River and Sebago Lake, which is one of the state’s largest lakes, means that it is a perfect location for water sport enthusiasts.  Rent out a canoe or kayak at Dundee Park or go boating on the lake.  Boaters will want to stop over at Frye Island for a leisurely lunch at Frye’s Leap General Store and Café.  Located on the waterfront, the café has a generous selection of beers on offer.  The island is also home to a 9-hole golf course.

Outdoor exploration could include a Saturday at the Sebago Lake State Park.  One of the five original state parks, the 1400 acres of this property are located just 25 minutes away from Windham.  The park features a great variety of geographical features, including sandy beaches, woods and ponds, and diverse species of wildlife.

For a different kind of adventure, kids will love Seacoast Adventure in Windham itself.  The amusement park has all kinds of attractions on offer for both summer and winter.  Snow tubing is extremely popular here but there is also a zip line tour, a 100-foot sky swing, a mini golf course, go-karts….  After a fun-filled afternoon, families might want to unwind with a cone of ice cream at the Ice Cream Dugout.  Baseball themed, the location is also a great place to catch a Red Sox Game.

The Chutes Family Restaurant is another Windham institution.  Best known for its breakfast (especially their selection of stovetop hashes), it is open seven days a week.  Be prepared for a line on the weekend though!
