The town of Gorham is home to one of the three campuses of the University of Southern Maine.  This offers residents all the advantage of university life from visits to the USM Art Galleries and the arboretum to performances in Russell Hall Theatre and concerts in Corthell Hall.  Community members are proud of the University’s 23 NCAA Division III teams and cheer them on (go Huskies!), often all the way into post-season play.

The town’s commitment to education has nurtured an excellent school system.  The Gorham School District is a member of the Sebago Educational Alliance.  This offers students the opportunity to challenge themselves by participating in programs run in cooperation with USM and St. Joseph’s College.

Water sports enthusiasts take note.  Sebago Lake is just a ten-minute drive away from Gorham.  Hikers and bikers can admire Maine’s natural beauty in any one of the nearby state parks: Moose Brook State Park, Wolfe’s Neck Woods State Park, Bradbury Mountain State Park, the Ferry Beach State Park…

For a more leisurely weekend, stroll through the South Street Historic District and the Gorham Campus Historic District and break for coffee at Gorham Grind in the downtown Village.  Or spend the afternoon in Baxter Memorial Library, a historic landmark.  The Dance Studio of Maine is another Gorham institution.  Since 1952, it has been offering classes to townspeople of all ages.

Afterwards, kids will want to go to the Gorham House of Pizza, a part of the town landscape since 1981, while grownups might opt instead for an inside look at how the Sebago Brewing Company’s beers are made.  True to their name, the company’s beers are all brewed with water from the Sebago Lake.  The charming SBC restaurant is housed in what used to be the Gorham train station.

Though it can feel like a small town, Gorham’s proximity to Portland means that its residents have full access to all the advantages of city life.  With 230 restaurants, Portland may well have the most restaurants per capita in the nation and it’s just a twenty-minute drive away!  Just as close, the Portland International Jetport is the busiest airport of Maine and one of the most affordable in New England.
